The project is located in the Tuanshan area of the National Vanadium Titanium High tech Zone, where 48 giant battery compartments are neatly arranged. As the first fully vanadium flow independent energy storage demonstration project with the largest capacity in the southwest region, the project adopts the internationally leading flow battery technology route, with an energy storage capacity of up to 500000 kWh and a discharge time of 5 hours to meet the annual electricity demand of 200 households, while also meeting the local consumption of electricity in industrial parks.
The project is invested and constructed by Sichuan Electric Power Co., Ltd. of State Power Investment Corporation. Data shows that the power station can increase the utilization rate of new energy generation by about 6.64 percentage points per year, which is equivalent to consuming 21.25 million kilowatt hours of green electricity and reducing carbon emissions by about 1.353 million tons per year.
The reporter learned in the interview that the project was launched and put into operation in only 9 months, filling the gap in the large-scale application of long-term energy storage technology in our city, and providing key support for the implementation of China's "dual carbon" strategy and the construction of a new power system. It is worth noting that the power station can complete approximately 85000 kilowatt hours of charging and 60000 kilowatt hours of discharging in a single day, significantly improving the capacity for new energy consumption.

The all vanadium liquid flow energy storage power station is like a "super power bank", innovatively adopting an integrated design of outdoor preset warehouses, and achieving millisecond level response through an intelligent control system. It can efficiently store green electricity when there is surplus power and accurately release stable current during peak load periods of the power grid. Through the ultra large capacity regulation capability of 60 megawatt hours, the fluctuation of new energy generation is effectively suppressed, and at the same time, the intelligent coordination between the 110 kV booster station and the main power grid significantly improves the stability and economy of green power in our city.
In recent years, Panzhihua has proposed to build the "Vanadium Electricity Capital of China". The "Vanadium Electricity Capital of China" - Panzhihua City Vanadium Battery Energy Storage Industry Development Plan (2023-2030) "clearly states that the focus is on building a vanadium battery" equipment manufacturing+materials "characteristic industrial cluster and cultivating and developing a billion dollar energy storage industry. By 2025, we aim to achieve a production capacity of 800MW and 2GWh vanadium batteries in the battery stack, accounting for approximately 28% of the national vanadium battery energy storage market. By 2030, a complete set of equipment and system integration capabilities for 1.5GW stacks and 4GWh vanadium batteries will be formed, accounting for approximately 35% of the national vanadium battery energy storage market.
The abundant vanadium resources are the foundation for the city to seize the initiative in developing the vanadium battery industry. Data shows that Panzhihua has a vanadium resource reserve of 14 million tons, accounting for 62.2% of the national total and 11.6% of the global total, ranking first in China and third in the world. It is also the world's largest comprehensive production base for vanadium products.
With resources in hand, Panzhihua has made frequent moves in the vanadium battery industry. In 2014, Pangang Group Research Institute Co., Ltd. developed and built a pilot production line with an annual output of 1000 cubic meters of vanadium electrolyte based on previous electrolyte preparation technology; In 2023, we successfully signed contracts to introduce leading enterprises such as Dalian Rongke and State Power Investment Corporation, forming an annual production capacity of 1000 tons of high-purity vanadium pentoxide and 3000 cubic meters of vanadium electrolyte; At present, it has more than 100 innovation and entrepreneurship platforms, including the State Key Laboratory for Comprehensive Utilization of Vanadium and Titanium Resources, the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Comprehensive Utilization of Vanadium and Titanium Magnetite, and has established the first vanadium and titanium metal storage company in China.
This is a deep coupling between the technology output of central enterprises and the local industrial chain, which is of great significance for the construction of a strong industrial chain in Panzhihua.
