Heavy signing! 5.5 billion silicon carbide project landed in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia
Release time:2025.05.22 Number of views:92

The Tongliao Municipal Political Consultative Conference played a key role in the implementation of the project, paving the way for the rooting of this strategic emerging industry through resource coordination and government enterprise docking.

Project Highlights: Covering the entire industry chain, targeting high-end manufacturing

The silicon carbide industrial park signed this time is not a single production line, but a complete industrial chain covering upstream materials, midstream composite materials, and downstream applications, with both technological content and market potential:

Phase 1: Semiconductor grade silicon carbide powder (investment of 500 million)

Annual production of 150000 tons of high-purity silicon carbide powder, mainly used in semiconductor, new energy (photovoltaic/energy storage) and other fields.

Silicon carbide powder is the core raw material for manufacturing SiC wafers, which has long relied on imports. This project will help replace it with domestic production.

Phase 2: Carbon carbon composite processing (investment of 2.5 billion)

Annual production of 500000 square meters of carbon carbon composite materials, with high temperature resistance, lightweight, and high strength characteristics.

Application scenarios: High end fields such as aerospace rocket engine components, photovoltaic single crystal furnace thermal fields, etc.

3. Phase III: Carbon carbon brake discs (investment of 2.5 billion)

Annual production of 300000 sets of high-performance brake discs, mainly for transportation vehicles such as high-speed trains, airplanes, and racing cars.

Carbon carbon brake discs reduce weight by 40% compared to traditional metal products, increase lifespan by three times, and have a market unit price of over 10000 yuan.

Why choose Tongliao? Dual advantages of location and policy

Energy support: Inner Mongolia has low electricity prices, suitable for silicon carbide production (electricity consumption accounts for more than 30% of the cost).

Raw material resources: The local silicon ore reserves are abundant, which can reduce the cost of raw material procurement.

Policy dividend: In recent years, Inner Mongolia has focused on laying out the "wind solar hydrogen storage" industry chain, which is highly compatible with the application scenarios of silicon carbide.

Industry impact: Domestic silicon carbide accelerates breakthrough

The current global silicon carbide market is monopolized by giants such as Wolfspeed in the United States and Infineon in Germany, but Wolfspeed has recently fallen into bankruptcy crisis, bringing replacement opportunities to Chinese manufacturers. The significance of this Tongliao project lies in:

Chain repair: Break through the bottleneck of domestic production of high-purity powders and reduce dependence on imported substrates.

Strong Chain: Extending the value chain through composite materials to enhance the profit margin of the industry.

Synergy effect: Form regional linkage with the new energy clusters in Baotou and Hohhot.

Challenges and Prospects

Despite the broad prospects, the project still needs to face:

Technical threshold: The purity of semiconductor grade silicon carbide powder needs to reach 99.9999%, which requires extremely high process requirements.

Market risk: Be alert to the impact of cyclical fluctuations in the new energy industry on demand.

If the production is successfully achieved, Tongliao is expected to become the "third pole" of China's silicon carbide industry after Shanghai and Xiamen.
